It's too cold in our alpine valley for peaches and other fruit to grow, but every year buyers go across the mountains to bring fresh melons, peaches, nectarines, and chili back to our communities, that they sell along the roads or at the farmers' markets.  This is an old tradition that goes back generations: Grandma told stories of trucks bringing fruit and chili that she traded for with potatoes and lamb meat and wool.
